This week-long camp is designed for teens who want to explore textile work in a thoughtful, hands-on way. Combining foundational sewing skills with the art of natural dyeing, participants will learn to work with fabric from start to finish — stitching, shaping, and transforming cloth using plant-based color.

Each day offers a balance of guided instruction and independent studio time, allowing teens to build skills while developing their own ideas and creative direction. The process encourages patience, experimentation, and attention to detail, all within a calm and supportive studio environment.

Participants will:

  • Learn and refine hand-sewing techniques (and limited use of a sewing machine)
  • Work with fabric, pattern, and simple construction
  • Explore natural dyes using plant-based materials
  • Experiment with color, texture, and textile design
  • Develop independence and confidence in their work
  • Create finished and in-progress textile pieces

No prior experience is required, though this camp is well-suited for teens who enjoy working with their hands and want to deepen their skills.

Details

When: June 15-19 (Monday-Friday) from 1pm-4pm

Where: The Grow Creative Studio inside the Historic Sacred Heart Building in East Hill

Who: Children ages 12+ (age isn't always the best determining factor for class placement, contact us if you have a slightly younger child and would like to discuss)

A light, healthy snack will be provided each day - if your teen has special dietary needs, please pack them their own snack. There will be one surprise trip downstairs to Lamonte for a gelato treat. You will be notified of the day in advance and can send them with an alternative treat to enjoy on that day if needed.

*Note that we will be asking teens to check their phones at the door to allow for full attention on their creative process.

At the completion of camp on Friday, June 19th, there will be an optional showcase for teens to display and show their work to their families and friends.
