The Clay Workshop: Hand-Building with Clay | Ages 8+

In collaboration with Shannon Kinne from LiveOak Pottery

In The Clay Workshop, children will explore the ancient art of hand-building with clay. Using pinch, coil, and slab techniques, students will create both functional and sculptural pieces while learning to work thoughtfully and patiently with their hands and materials.
This camp emphasizes process over perfection, encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and intentional design. Clay invites children to slow down, problem-solve, and experience the satisfaction of transforming raw material into something lasting.

Skills explored include:
  • Hand-building techniques (pinch, coil, slab)
  • Texture, form, and surface design
  • Creative confidence and patience
  • Care for tools and materials

Details

When: June 22-26 (Monday-Friday) from 9am - 12 Noon

Where: The Grow Creative Studio inside the Historic Sacred Heart Building in East Hill

Who: Children ages 8+ (age isn't always the best determining factor for class placement, contact us if you have a slightly younger child and would like to discuss) 

A light, healthy snack will be provided each day - if your child has special dietary needs, please pack them their own snack. There will be one surprise trip downstairs to Lamonte for a gelato treat. You will be notified of the day in advance and can opt-out or send your child with an alternative treat to enjoy on that day if needed. 

At the completion of camp on Friday, June 26th, there will be a showcase for the campers to display and show their work to their families and friends.
