Letting Creativity Lead - A Letter from our Founder

Hello! Welcome!

Katy here, founder of Grow Creative and I'm popping in today to share a little behind the scenes with you. There has been a lot of shifts, changes and growth for our GC team and our family in the past few months. I thought it might be fun to share a little bit about what's been going on and how creativity has led our journey.

Grow Creative blossomed late last year as a small side project for me. After a few years of studying meditation, embodiment work and healing, I was craving an outlet for my creative pursuits. I wanted to share my daily practices, my favorite supplies and how creativity has served me throughout my life. Out of every practice, ritual, method and habit (there have been many) - my creative practice has been what's stuck with me the most consistently. It's there when I have tons of energy for it and when I have nothing to give. It's there when I feel creative and when I don't. It allows me to be silent and to express. It helps me take time for myself and also connects me to those around me. It's my through-thread that has anchored me through good times and hard ones.

Our team grew when I was chatting with a friend who needed something very similar, something to be a part of, something to spark inspiration and a place to express herself. And kept growing as I shared the vision of spreading creativity as a lifestyle choice and not a "talent" or a career. We are all hungry to express ourselves the human way, through creativity.

We've been nimble this year - trying different things - allowing ideas to play out - letting the process be our teacher. And we've learned a lot. There are few things that stay consistent. At Grow Creative we :

  • Honor the creative process as a journey, not a destination
  • Follow beauty as our guide -- we ask "is it beautiful?" if not, it doesn't live here.
  • Bring purpose and meaning to our making - less "fast crafting" more sustainable crafting
  • Preach the message of creativity : You are creative simply because you are human. It's just a matter of engaging with your creativity every day.

As we go along, we are understanding who it is that we serve and have found a home in the hearts of moms who are passionate about raising kids who are healthy in mind, body and spirit. These moms are going against what culture has told them is "correct" for their children. A lot of these moms are home educators. All of you are forging your own path for your family. And you know how important the skill of creativity is. Creativity isn't just arts and crafts, but holds in it the power of new ways of thinking and being in this world, which is exactly what the next generation is going to need. We want to help you invite your child into a creative practice that is good, true, lovely and purposeful. To help them learn the ritual of creativity that leads to a life of creativity.

Our family has followed a creative journey the past few years. Following our hearts, leaning into difficulties, embracing the moment, making quick decisions, problem solving, brainstorming solutions and staying open to change. And although it's been difficult at times (a lot of times!) it's always worth it. To follow a life of creativity is to fully live. And it inspires a new way of being, one that is open and willing to lean into love vs fear.

We're grateful you have come along for this wild journey and hope that we can be an inspiration to you and your family to prioritize creativity as more than just a craft project, but as a way of life.

Love,

Katy
