Books to Spark Curiosity and Creative Inspiration

The first phase of reclaiming your creativity is what we call "planting the seed". To get yourself in the mindset of growth and change, you need inspiration and what better way to get inspired -- books! See below for some of our favorites.

1. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

An all around favorite. It's a light and quick read that's full of stories and inspiration. Liz helps us understand creativity as a force for good in the world that is here to co-create with us if we choose to live life in devotion to it. One of my favorite books to go back to over and over again.

2. The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

It doesn't matter if you are a working artist or simply a human being on this planet - Steven Pressfield's approach to creation in this world is straight to the point with zero fluff. He fully explains "resistance" and how it shows up in our lives to kill our generative powers. And then beautifully invites us into the magic that awaits when we overcome.

3. The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron

Are you ready to embark on a creative journey to find a deeper connection to process and purpose? Julia Cameron's approach guides us in uncovering problems areas and pressure points that may be restricting our creative flow and offers techniques to free up any areas where they might be stuck, opening up opportunities for self-growth and self-discovery. A must read -- but only when you're ready to commit to the 12 week program.

4. Bird by Bird by Ann Lamott

I love Ann Lamott - in this book on writing, she gives her signature hilarious, big-hearted, homespun advice. It's a delightful read that will leave you smiling and feeling ready to tackle this creative journey, bit by bit.

5. Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg

Another book on writing that can be translated to anything creative. She artfully brings together Zen meditation and writing. She has a down to earth and welcoming approach with loads of great stories to tell.

6. The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin

The Creative Act is a beautiful and generous course of study that illuminates the path of the artist as a road we all can follow. It distills the wisdom gleaned from a lifetime's work into a luminous reading experience that puts the power to create moments--and lifetimes--of exhilaration and transcendence within closer reach for all of us. Hot Tip : get it as an audio book and listen to it before bed.
