10 Truths to Encourage Creativity in Your Kids (and Yourself!)

Hello and welcome!

Today we're talking about 10 Creative Truths to encourage creativity in your kids...and yourself! Creativity isn't just paintbrushes and crafts. Creativity is a thread that runs through your life. We hope you enjoy these 10 truths that we use everyday in our own lives and when navigating conversation with our kids.

1. You are creative simply because you are human.

Creativity is an inherent trait of human nature, expressed uniquely by each individual through ideas and actions (and these ideas and actions aren't always related to art or craft!)

2. The process is all there is - rushing is a waste of energy.

The journey towards a goal is where the true value lies; rushing through it only depletes energy without fully experiencing or learning from the process. As soon as one thing is finished, there's another waiting to begin -- over and over again. This is the beauty of life, slow down and enjoy the process.

3. Trying new things makes you an interesting person..to yourself and to others.

Embracing novelty and venturing into unfamiliar territories adds layers to your personality and broadens your perspectives, making you more engaging and multifaceted. This creates interesting situations, conversations and opportunities that will surprise and delight you.

4. Failure is what leads to success — can’t get there till you get through the failures.

Each failure is a stepping stone towards eventual success; learning from setbacks is essential for growth and achieving goals. Fail fast and keep going!

5. It’s always worth it to be curious and ask questions.

Curiosity fuels exploration, learning, and discovery, enriching your understanding of the world and fostering personal growth. Asking questions paired with deep listening will be far more interesting than always being the one talking.

6. Always search for the soul of a thing.

Understanding the essence or core of something provides deeper insights and appreciation, transcending superficial aspects.

7. Change can be scary AND it’s always an adventure.

While change can be daunting, it often leads to new experiences and opportunities, turning life into an exciting journey of discovery.

8. If you don’t go for it, you’ll always regret it — ask yourself, "What’s the worst that can happen?"

Regret often stems from missed opportunities; taking risks and pursuing ambitions can lead to fulfilling outcomes, outweighing the fear of potential failure.

9. It’s always okay to be who you are, the trick is knowing who that is.

Authenticity lies in embracing and understanding your true self, accepting both strengths and weaknesses with self-awareness and confidence. You have a unique perspective and point of view that is welcomed and cherished.

10.  Ugly has nothing to do with how something looks, it’s how something makes you feel.

The beauty or ugliness of something is not necessarily defined by its outward appearance, but by the emotions and experiences it evokes within us. How does that movie make you feel? How did that comment affect your day? These are important questions to ask ourselves and our kids.
