Come join us for a gentle introduction to the world of handwork! In this 12-week class, young makers will build essential fine motor skills through foundational handwork practices and beginner-friendly creative projects, all in a nurturing, age-appropriate way.

Rooted in Charlotte Mason and inspired by Waldorf methods, this class is designed to honor the natural creativity and growing abilities of young children. Through storytelling, seasonal projects, and simple rhythms, your child will strengthen their hands, build focus, and develop a deep appreciation for working with natural materials.

At this age, children are developing the self-regulation needed for more sustained tasks, and this class provides the perfect opportunity to gently stretch those skills. The work we do here not only supports future handwriting and math readiness but also provides calming, structured engagement that’s especially beneficial for sensory-seeking children.

In this 12 week class, we will start from the beginning:

• Rolling yarn into balls to strengthen fine motor control

• Making slip knots (the first step to knitting!)

• Learning to finger knit

• Discovering a weaving loom and creating simple weaving projects

• Beginner wet felting with sheep’s wool 

These skills are the vital first steps before picking up knitting needles. By the end of the class, children will have strong foundational skills that prepare them beautifully for knitting with needles. 

Each week includes:

• Circle time with Ms. Katy

• Step-by-step guidance through our project

• Handwork practices that grow patience and dexterity

• Seasonal crafts and stories

• Celebrating and sharing our work

Skills We’ll Cover:

• Fine motor development through yarn work and weaving

• Finger knitting

• Weaving on a loom

• Developing rhythm, confidence, and a love for working with our hands

• Wet Felting basics

Time: Fridays 3:00pm - 4:00pm CST (1-2pm PST) on Zoom

Dates: 12 weeks : Begins January 23rd - Ends May 1st (No class on 2/6, 3/20, 4/10)

** Please note that refunds can be given up until one week before the start date and then there is a partial refund policy. You will still be responsible for the cost of supplies once they have been mailed. Please plan with intention!
